Nanny Trailer - A Fractured Fable of Class and Maternal Guilt

Need a reason to look forward to Thanksgiving? Take a look at the newest trailer for Nikyatu Jusu’s feature debut Nanny.

The movie tells the story of a Senegalese immigrant Aisha (Anna Diop) who finds work as a nanny for a wealthy New York City family. Her new income will allow her to bring her young son to America, but only if she can learn to navigate her employers’ volatile home life. As Aisha’s dreams get closer, a malevolent force threatens to interrupt her plans and bring disaster.

Whew! I don’t know what’s scarier, supervising a kids’ swimming class or surfacing in a nightmare world once you dunk yourself in the pool.

The film blends elements of traditional fables, psychological horror, and classism to create a bone-chilling parable. Jusu drew inspiration from her life, using her mother’s experiences as a domestic worker to shade her story.

Nanny won the Sundance Film Festival Dramatic Grand Jury Prize, the first horror film to do so and the second time a Black female director has earned the honor ever. Check out Nanny in theaters on November 23 or streaming on Prime Video on December 16.
